Devolution, Resources, Resilience

With a mix of keynote speeches, panel discussions and lightning talks, the event will provide first hand insight from policy makers and regional leaders into the Government’s emerging devolution and local government reform agenda.

We’ll discuss the critical need for action on resources and waste and the circular economy’s role in building national resilience against geo-political and climate shocks. We’ll delve into what a place-based approach could look like if properly invested in and scaled, what’s needed from Government and each other to make it a reality, and how cities and regions can collaborate to deliver maximum impact.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Emma Hardy MP, Minister of State in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • Emma Pinchbeck, Chief Executive, Climate Change Committee
  • Mete Coban, Deputy London Mayor for Environment and Energy & ReLondon Chair
  • Jo Rogers, Acting Chief Executive, ReLondon
  • Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council
  • Philip Glanville – Director of Advocacy and Engagement, UK100
  • Chris Paddock, Director of Economy (Policy and Integration), West Midlands Combined Authority
  • Cllr Eloise Waldon-Day, Executive Member for Climate and Council Coordination, Southwark Council

At this event we’ll delve into what more autonomy for cities and regions means for place-based circular action and how we can collaborate to ensure that devolved powers meet the real needs of diverse communities faster and better.

We’ll inspire you with success stories and case studies that can be replicated at scale elsewhere, while networking opportunities will create new connections and collaborations; and .we’ll highlight how place-based circular action can deliver more tangibly and effectively on carbon reduction targets (45% of climate emissions are consumption-based).

An essential event for brokering connections and strengthening partnerships between cities and regions, Devolution, Resources, Resilience is the anchor event of the 9th year of Circular Economy Week, supporting the transition to a low carbon, circular economy for the UK.

Cucumbers, Creativity and Community: What Circularity Looks Like in the Food System

What does a more circular food system look like, and how are people putting it into practice?

The current food system leaks edible food at every stage. Its sheer complexity and size create barriers to efficiency and circularity, and yet there are trailblazers who are plugging the gaps in different ways.

Hosted by StreetBox CIC, a veg box scheme social enterprise, this panel discussion will explore the scale and nuances of the flawed food system and the challenges it presents. To counter, StreetBox CIC will dive into the solutions that are being brought to the forefront of the battle against food waste in London through creative cooking, preservation and community distribution.

You’ll hear discussions around ideas like how can we keep surplus food in use for longer? What are the major obstacles? How can businesses, councils, charities, chefs and communities work together to make better use of the food we already have?

After the event you will be invited to get involved in making the food system circular! There will be surplus freebies to take home, so remember to bring your jars and bags.

Panel to be announced soon.

Inside a Circular Fit-Out: A Working Session at GAIL’s The Firestation

Sustainability in hospitality design gets talked about a lot. Fewer people get to walk through a real site and see how the decisions actually played out, what got reused, what got specified differently, and what it cost.

This session takes place inside GAIL’s, a fit-out led by Reassemble that’s shortlisted for two awards at the British Institute Interior Design. David, co-founder of Reassemble, will walk you through the space itself: the material choices, the sourcing decisions, and the trade-offs that came with them.

You’ll then take part in a live, collaborative workshop using the Circular Scorecard, benchmarking your own hospitality venue against the choices you’ve just seen in the room. It’s a quick but thoughtful, multiple-choice questionnaire that allows you to discover how your restaurant measures up against sustainable design and operational best practices. Upon completion, you’ll instantly get your personalised Circular Score, plus practical strategies to elevate sustainability in your spaces.

Reassemble will close with an open discussion on cost and durability, the questions that come up in every fit-out conversation but rarely get answered honestly.

NB: due to this being industry specific, tickets are reserved for people who work within a hospitality company (eg. operators, sustainability, property, founders).

Transforming Waste into Community Impact: How Local Business Can Make a Difference

Working across the UK’s major television broadcasters gave Kate and Emma first-hand insight into the industry’s waste challenge and inspired them to find a better way to manage materials and resources.

In 2021, they founded PropUp to put that thinking into practice. Their model keeps props, sets and equipment in use for longer, while redirecting materials from production into schools, charities, and community organisations. It’s a practical example of how circular economy principles can deliver tangible ESG outcomes: reducing waste, extending resource lifecycles, and creating social value.

With one of PropUp’s hubs based in Fitzrovia, we’ll also look closer to home, exploring how local businesses can support circular initiatives through surplus clearances, office moves and refurbishment projects, while creating positive impact for local people and communities.

Expect an optimistic, practical discussion about collaboration, sustainability and lasting social value, with plenty of opportunity to meet your neighbours along the way.

Arrivals from 5:00pm, with the presentation starting promptly at 5:30pm, followed by discussion and networking.

“Mind the Gap”: Are We Circular Yet? An honest conversation

Filling it: gaps in knowledge, in practicality, in delivery. Buy-in that never arrives from clients or project teams. Budgets, programmes, procurement routes, and plenty of plain old habit. Every one of them makes the gap that bit wider.

As part of ReLondon’s Circular Economy Week, join Virtus Contracts for an interactive panel discussion about how we start pulling those things out and shrinking it.

Four panellists from across the industry will tackle the questions we don’t often get the chance to ask, including the mistakes we’ve already made and what they taught us.

What’s the first thing you’d pull out? Where does the process break down? Whose job is it to close the gap? And are we making circularity harder than it needs to be?

We want this to be a real so your experiences, frustrations, ideas and challenges are very much encouraged throughout.

After the panel, join Virtus Contracts for a tour of Senator’s ReWork exhibition, before finishing with drinks, food and networking.

So, are we circular yet? Let’s stop stepping over the gap and start shrinking it.

The Reusual Suspects – CE Week networking special!

Calling all Reusual Suspects!

If you work in or are passionate about reuse, join our CE Week special session to explore the world of reuse, share ideas and connect with others in the field. Bring your experiences, challenges and solutions for some valuable lunchtime networking…come and meet your fellow Reusual Suspects!

Reuse vs Recycling: Reuse sits above recycling in the waste hierarchy, yet it still gets less attention. With no targets, being hard to measure and much happening informally, recycling has long taken the spotlight. Rather than dwell on why, we’ll focus on what we can do about it.

Catch up on The Reusual Suspects so far: A quick tour of inspiring projects shared by our network since we launched this year, including a tech reuse project that’s measured social value, an organisation making borrowing easy across Wales, Cornwall’s growing network of reuse shops, and a New Zealand city’s reusable serve-wear scheme.

What if…? What if every recycling centre had a reuse shop, reuse got the same funding as recycling and every high street had a place to share, borrow and fix? We’ll explore bold ideas and build a wish list together.

Plus, we’ll have plenty of time for networking!

Ecological Design Thinking for a Circular Economy

How might the way forests, ecosystems and other living systems navigate complexity help us rethink the circular economy?

Ecological Design Thinking for a Circular Economy introduces a creative and practical approach to circular innovation, drawing on ecological principles to help organisations see familiar challenges from a different perspective. Living systems have evolved ways of building resilience, working through interdependence, adapting to change and making effective use of resources. This session explores what these patterns can teach us about business models, value chains and wider systems change.

Through short provocations, examples and guided reflection, participants will use ecological metaphors to challenge assumptions, strengthen their systems thinking and uncover ideas that may otherwise be overlooked. The session will also introduce Nature’s Playbook, a research-based tool developed to translate insights from ecology into practical prompts for circular economy innovation.

Everyone attending will receive a Nature’s Playbook demonstration booklet to use during the session. Participants who would like to continue working with the approach will also have the opportunity to purchase the full Nature’s Playbook card set.

From circular ambition to action: How to launch and scale circular models

Many organisations know where circularity could create value. The harder question is how to turn that opportunity into something customers adopt, partners deliver and the business can repeat and grow.

Join Clarasys for a practical discussion with Oxfam and ACS, drawing on the recent success of launching a rental pilot. Together, they will explore what changes between launching a pilot and scaling a model, and how to make better decisions at each stage.

You will learn how to bring the customer proposition, partners, operations and technology together; shape a stronger case for investment and continued commitment; identify where pilots can stall; and use clear questions and evidence to judge whether a model is ready to scale.

The session is designed for senior leaders and practitioners in sustainability, circularity, commercial, customer experience, innovation, strategy, transformation, retail and operations.
Register for the webinar to explore the choices and next steps that can move your circular idea forward.

ReYorkshire – A Regional Approach to Circular Economy

To mark Circular Economy Week 2026, Reusefully and partners are hosting a one hour online session with the latest updates from ReYorkshire (www.reyorkshire.com). This eighteen month programme of work is funded by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority to identify and pilot opportunities across a range of multiple sectors in the region including construction, agriculture & aquaculture, manufacturing, community & food, and the commercial and industrial sectors. It is designed to promote circular economy, reuse and materials sharing across the region, whilst supporting the vibrant community sector based in the region.

You will hear more about the extensive data and stakeholder mapping being conducted to identify symbiosis opportunities, development of a physical construction reuse hub, and other pilots including the use of spent coffee grounds in personal care product manufacture.

The event aims to show the value of a regional approach to circular economy, and the opportunity that provides, with the latest insights and potential to extend to other UK regions. After all, circular economy can support growth in every postcode!

Digital Product Passports for a Circular Economy

An introduction to CE-RISE an EU/UK funded project advancing circularity in Electronical products.

This session will provide an update from the EU/UK funded CE-RISE (Circular Economy Resource Information System) project, a multi-partner study into Digital Product Passports (DPP) and the development of the CE-RISE system. The software will integrate DPP data with actionable R-strategy indicators (e.g., repairability, recyclability) and SEE impacts into one coherent, value chain aware view. This open access platform, enables better choices by manufacturers, service providers, recyclers, policymakers and consumers.

Anyone with an interest in digital products passports or repair/remanufacture would benefit from attending this webinar. It would be particularly useful for individuals involved in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), procurement, product development, environmental and/or sustainability managers or those interested in repair cafes.

The webinar will provide an overview of the impending EU legislation on Digital Product Passports, together with a view of the UK position. We will then provide an overview of the system, practical applications of the system and the results of a case study.

This presentation will be delivered by Ecogenesys Research Consulting, one of the 27 project partners of CE-RISE.

Building a fair circular market from scratch: lessons from Mozambique

Circular economy strategies often focus on materials and systems, but the people doing the physical work of collection are frequently the most overlooked, and the most vulnerable to exploitation.

Unwaste, a UK-based social enterprise, used human-centred design to build Repa, a plastic waste service now running in Mozambique and scaling to other African cities. In this session, they’ll share what it took to design a functioning circular market for waste from the ground up, in a context with none of the infrastructure UK circularity practitioners take for granted.

They’ll cover:

Running user research, prototyping and testing in difficult field conditions, and what that taught them about designing for real behaviour, not assumptions
Building a viable circular market for waste in a large, informal city economy, where “just add a recycling bin” isn’t an option
How they deliberately designed out fraud and exploitation of low-paid, informal waste collectors, who are the backbone of waste management across much of the Global South.

Told through real stories and visuals, this session offers practical, transferable lessons for anyone designing circular systems, wherever they’re working, and a reminder that the people at the bottom of the supply chain are the ones circularity depends on most.

Construction Collage workshop

How does the built environment affect the world around us — and what would it take to change the way we build?

This interactive workshop explores the environmental and social impacts of the construction sector, from the resources and materials we use to the way we plan, design, build and use our buildings and infrastructure.

Working together in small groups, participants connect the causes and consequences of different aspects of the construction industry to build a shared picture of its impacts. The workshop covers issues including climate change, biodiversity, pollution, resource depletion and the wider consequences of how we design and develop our built environment.

The session then shifts from understanding to action, giving participants the opportunity to explore potential solutions, question current practices and identify ways the construction sector can contribute to a more sustainable future.

No prior knowledge of construction or sustainability is required. Whether you work in the built environment or are simply interested in how our buildings and cities shape the world around us, this is an opportunity to learn, connect the dots and explore practical pathways for change.

Workshop: Circular Economy Collage

What does a circular economy actually look like — and how can we move towards one?

Join this interactive workshop to explore how resources flow through our economy, the problems created by our current linear system, and the practical solutions that can help us make the shift to circularity.

Using a collaborative, visual approach, the Circular Economy Collage brings participants together to map the connections between resource extraction, production, consumption and waste. You’ll explore the key principles of the circular economy and discover different ways of intervening to keep resources and products in use for longer.

The workshop is designed to make a complex topic accessible, engaging and relevant, whether you’re new to circular economy thinking or already working in the field.

You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how the current system works, greater fluency in circular economy concepts and a practical framework for identifying opportunities for change.
